Time to Transition

It’s only natural to feel a sense of anticipation at the end of one season and the start of another, but what do you do when your wardrobe says one thing and the weather outside your window says something else?

What to wear at this time of year can be tricky. How best to dress can become an issue during this transitional period when the weather can be hot and sunny one day but significantly cooler the next.

This is compounded by the fact that in Bermuda, the balmy weather can linger for several months often all the way to the New Year. In fact, these last months of the year are often the most pleasant as the island enjoys bright, sunny days without the high levels of humidity that are felt during the summer months. What to do during these in-between months when you can’t wait to move on to next season’s wardrobe, but the weather hasn’t quite caught up with the fashion calendar yet? We suggest getting smart about dressing by focusing on layering and transitional pieces.

Time to Transition

Don’t pack away the kimono or kaftan you used to cover up at the beach this summer as it is one of the best ways to add a light layer before your have to bring out those heavier items. Instead transition the kaftan like this one from Lalesso by throwing it over a simple t-shirt and jeans and keep the warm glow from summer going. Another way to extend the season is to convert that one-piece swimsuit to a bodysuit. Extend its life by pairing it with shorts or trousers and wearing it as a top for a smooth, sleek look that references 1990s minimalism.

Time to Transition

And don’t forget your decor can be transitional too. There’s no need to relegate that pretty summer basket to the back of the closet (even if these ones by Xinh + Co are designed to collapse). Baskets can do double duty during the winter months as storage or as a planter and they look great in a child’s bedroom where they can be used to hold blankets, diapers and toys.
