We were pleased to carry earrings by Katie Bartels Jewelry this summer. There are something about her designs that immediately call to mind clear blue waters, cool summer nights, and drinking vibrantly coloured cocktails you may possibly regret in the morning.

Katie’s love of jewellery started at the young age of 18 months, but it was only during a trip to to Barcelona, Spain as an undergraduate at Cornell University that a chance find of a gemstone store lead her to her true calling.

The self-taught jeweller began making designs for herself and then and her friends before branching out to sell her pieces commercially. Katie eventually left her job at a New York City law firm to pursue her passion for jewellery design full-time and since setting up her company in 2007, she hasn’t looked back.

In the summer of 2010, Katie received a Graduate Gemology degree from the Gemological Institute of America.

Katie uses a variety of semi-precious gemstones in her designs including onyx, howlite, turquoise, and tiger eye and materials such as wood, resin, and brass. Although based in Manhattan, she takes the inspiration for her pieces from her extensive travels to exotic and colourful locations such as India and Bermuda. 

Her designs are inspired by her world travels and love of colour. Treating yourself to one of her gorgeous designs is one holiday indulgence you certainly will not regret.
